Week 1: League Results – Tee-Aire Open

What a great first week the league had at Tee-Aire in Brookfield.

The season was kicked off by me working with Milwaukee local news station, CBS 58 to get the story on the air.

Check out the segment here.

The group came to be a collection of 30 individuals vying for prizes, fun, and low scores.

With the weather being unfavorable, players played sporadically throughout the week when weather and time permitted.

An amazing 21 Hole-in-ones were shot during the first week which meant…lotto tickets!

For the weekly results, there was a tie for first between Rob Bundick and Andrew Koppenaal at 39 (-7)

Also there was a tie for third between Brandon Seitz and Harry Castaldo at 42 (-4)

A tie-breaker was conducted to determine the winner for prizes and was done by having some players randomly draw 5 hole numbers to see who won 2 individual holes at Tee-Aire first amongst those tied above. Continue reading “Week 1: League Results – Tee-Aire Open”

Helman’s Hole 18

Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Hole 18

A tough hole to finish off the course. A jump with access to a water hazard on the left side is the first challenge. The jump can be hard to judge. The next and final hard part is getting it into the lighthouse. It is a fairly narrow opening and the green has some hard to read slopes.

Calling this hole Traditions makes quite a bit of sense, the horseshoe type hole can be found at nearly any course in the world. With just some slight variances in shape and the opening to the water hazard present by cup, make this their own take. Follow the edging the best you can to make it around and with a little luck, a bank shot may get you in the cup. Again, be wary of that water hazard behind the hole, it acts like a ball magnet!

Helman’s Hole 16

Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Hole 16

For a par 3, this hole is rather tricky. You want to be very careful on hitting too hard as a reckless shot could end up in the drink a number of ways. Bank shots are key here to a low score but even those with a bank shot mind can have trouble with these angles. If you really want to score low but not risk going for a hole-in-one, then laying up is a great option. Try to land between the first and second water hazards for the best lie for shot 2.

Long, curvy, and uneven. It can be quite a challenge to get around those curves so play the angles. Be cautious that there are some open sand traps near the end of the curve that can make it quite difficult to make par.

Helman’s Hole 14

Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Hole 14

One of the few holes on this course that you actually can get a hole-in-one on. Avoid the water pit on the right and then go up the slope for a double bank shot to go back towards the hole and hopefully in it!

Helman’s Hole 13

Hole 13

A dogleg left with the view of the hole blocked by the gazebo so it is pretty much a blind hole. Two water hazards are on both sides of the hole so a rough bounce on the dogleg could result in the ball performing a doggy paddle.

Hole 12

Oh deer what a challenging hole! Two pipes lead to the other half of the green but making it through is not an easy feat. A miss can mean a tremendous rebound off of the brick or even out-of-bounds. Once you make it through, it can still end up out-of-bounds or end up in the pool. With any luck, you can bank of the brick outcropping and towards the hole.

Helman’s Hole 11

Hole 11

Another tough bridge hole. To the left of the tee, there is a sand trap that can lead to the ball going out-of-bounds. Making the shot over the bridge isn’t too hard but the rebound could be disastrous as an opening to a water hazard is fairly easy to fall into. After another small bridge, the hole is waiting for you.

Over a narrow bridge to start off the hole. You have to be careful and cautious of several openings throughout the hole that can cause some penalty strokes with out-of-bounds. With a smooth powerful stroke it could be possible for a hole-in-one. I’d have to play it again to find the right angles.

15th Annual Milwaukee Summer Putt Putt League

Hey Milwaukee!

Looking for something fun to do this summer?

It is time to sign up for the 15th Annual Milwaukee Summer Putt Putt League.

Started by the Midwestern Unconventional Sports Association 15 years ago, the Milwaukee Summer Putt Putt League brings out a crowd of Mini Golfers for an 8 week sprint of players putting their best for the prize of Tour Champion!

It is a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people! Last year was mine and Missus Mini Golf’s first year with the league. I tied for first place as co-champion and Missus Mini Golf topped the leaderboard for the women.

This year, it could be you!

I’ll be your tour host as we travel to different courses each Monday night. All you have to do is turn in your scorecard to me when you finish your round. I will then upload your score to the league scoreboard.

On a side note, if you can’t make a Monday, you can always make it up during the week and send me pictures of your scorecard.

Hole-in-ones are rewarded with lottery scratchers and there are weekly prizes for the course winner.

The registration fee is $20 (this helps cover prizes and end-of-season pizza party) and each player will pay the green fee upon arrival to the course. (Many courses offer discounted rates for the league) Must be 18 years old or older to participate.

Additional details for the league will be posted on the league web page here and questions can come my way as well.

Get registered today as registration will only be open until June 18th!

See you on the green! ⛳️

Now we have a dogleg right, but this one is a little bit more difficult. There is an opening to end up in the water on the right hand side as well as a sand trap which can go out-of-bounds fairly easy. The changes in elevation are a bit more apparent as well which makes for some harder shots.

A long and uneven dogleg left. Not sure I agree with the par of 5 since I easily nabbed a 2. The uneven surfaces could cause a bounce that makes the ball go out-of-bounds I suppose.

Helman’s Hole 7

Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Hole 7

Another long and frustrating hole. The angles don’t work well at all. You can end up in the water hazard after the bridge but it is not likely as the opening is actually not a favorable angle in itself. The hole is slightly elevated and that can throw your game off a little.
